Merton’s Pubs and Bars Set to Benefit as Labour Cuts Business Rates
42 pubs and bars in Merton are set to benefit from the Labour Government’s recently announced support package for British pubs.
From April this year, pubs will get a 15% cut to new business rates bills, followed by a two-year real terms freeze. In Merton, where 42 pubs and bars are eligible to benefit, this amounts to £247,000 in support for our much-loved local pubs.
Labour is backing British pubs with real support, with this relief package representing a saving per pub of £1650 over the next financial year.
The list of pubs in Merton set to benefit from Labour’s support includes many local favourites such as The Sultan on Norman Road, The Trafalgar on the High Path Estate , The Horse and Groom on Merton High Street, and Ganleys in Morden Town Centre.
Merton Labour are working hard locally to protect our much-loved local pubs. We’ve been campaigning alongside residents to save The Trafalgar pub from demolition – one of the last true freehouses in Merton and a true local gem.
While we recently received the brilliant news that thanks to pressure from Merton Labour and the community, the pub landlord Oli has been offered the opportunity to buy the lease – the future of the Trafalgar isn’t secured just yet.
