PETITION:
SAVE OUR POLICE FRONT DESKS
Between 2010 and 2024, the Conservatives inflicted significant cuts on local police services across the country. As a result, funding pressures in the Metropolitan Police mean they are planning to close the majority of Police front desks in the capital – including at Mitcham and Wimbledon Police Stations.
If these closures go ahead, there will only be eight 24hour front desks left in London, with the nearest to us in Merton being the 24hour front desk in Sutton and a reduced hours front desk in Kingston. This means that the commitment made in the New Met for London strategy, to have at least one 24hour front counter in each of London's 32 boroughs, will no longer be possible.
We’re calling on the Met Police to keep the front desks open at both Mitcham and Wimbledon Police Stations.
