PETITION UPDATE: THE TRAFALGAR PUB SAVED! (FOR NOW)

Sitting in the middle of the High Path Estate, The Trafalgar Pub is one of the last true freehouses in Merton. Winning a CAMRA South West London Pub of the Year in 2024, The Trafalgar Pub has a longstanding historical and cultural significance to our area.

But earlier this year (2025), a planning application was brought forward that would have seen The Trafalgar demolished.

Merton Labour led a local campaign to save The Trafalgar Pub from demolition and we’re delighted to announce that campaign has been a success thanks to the dedication of local residents and hundreds of residents and pub goers who signed our petition.

The Campaign Continues:

Whilst the Council planning team has refused the application, recognising the strong objections raised and the pub’s cultural and historic importance to the area, the Council’s decision could still be overturned if the applicant chooses to appeal the decision, which would be reviewed by the Planning Inspectorate. The developer could also choose to submit a new planning application on the site.

That’s why it’s still important that we still make our voice heard to save our local pub.

Sign and share to help save our historic local pub!
