Merton Labour Transforms Local Highstreets
After the Lib-Dem and Tory coalition Government introduced their austerity measures in 2014, town centres and highstreets across the country were left to struggle and fall into disrepair.
But we know that our highstreets are the beating heart of our towns and communities. That’s why Labour-run Merton Council has been working to transform local highstreets across the borough, from tackling graffiti, to brightening up businesses and tidying up our streets.
Thanks to the careful financial management of this Labour administration, we have been able to spend more money on the things that matter to local residents – like boosting local businesses and restoring our highstreets – all while keeping council tax hundreds of pounds cheaper than our Liberal Democrat neighbours!
So far, a total of eight shopping parades have been transformed, helping local residents to feel proud of their communities and encourage everyone to support local businesses here in Merton.
Improvements have included the redesign and restoration of shopping parades, new signage, lighting, and improved shop fronts.
