Merton Comes Together for First Ever Pride Celebration
Merton made history this summer with its first ever Pride, bringing together hundreds of residents and local groups for a day of celebration.
Organised by local LGBTQ+ community group Merton Plus, and proudly supported by Labour-run Merton Council, the event showcased the best of our community spirit and celebrated the wonderful LGBTQ+ community Merton is home to.
Kicking off the day was a community fair in Morden Hall Park, featuring fun and feel-good activities like Pride Pilates, face painting, a photobooth, and stalls from local groups.
It was a joy to see so many residents join Merton’s inaugural Pride Parade, marching together along the Wandle Trail to Merton Abbey Mills. The fun continued with live music, comedy, drag, dance and musical theatre.
Cabinet Member for Civic Pride, Cllr Eleanor Stringer said:
“I am so proud that our Labour Council was one of the sponsors for the first ever Merton Pride! The day was a huge success, with hundreds of people attending the events at Morden Hall Park and the parade to Merton Abbey Mills. A huge thankyou to Merton plus and the dozens of fellow volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the smooth-running of this event”
Labour councillors were proud to stand alongside all the volunteers who made this fantastic community event possible.
A huge thank you to everyone involved, we’re already looking forward to next year’s Pride!
