AFC Wimbledon Congratulated on their Triumph

Back in May, our very own AFC Wimbledon triumphed against Walsall at Wembley, securing their promotion to League One. This was a proud moment for the borough, and a testament to the spirit and determination of our local club.

Alongside their success on the pitch, AFC Wimbledon and their fans continually deliver for our communities here in Merton, whether by helping local people get active through their AFC Wimbledon Foundation programmes, taking part in council Borough of Sport initiatives like Big Sports Day, or providing direct support to those in need through fan-led Don’s Local Action Group.

To celebrate this milestone, Merton’s Labour-run Council hosted a special event in Morden Park, bringing together hundreds of AFC Wimbledon fans and local residents for a fun-packed evening of celebration and community pride. It was a moment to come together, cheer on our team, and watch them lift the trophy.

Cllr Ross Garrod said;

“It was fantastic to be able to celebrate with fans in Morden Park AFC Wimbledon’s fantastic achievement, as well as all the club and their fans do in the community. The Dons’ promotion to league one marks  the beginning of a new chapter in what I firmly believe is the greatest comeback story in football.

“At Merton Council, we’ve been there for AFC Wimbledon every step of the way – it was this Council which helped bring the club back home to Plough Lane. AFC Wimbledon are a team like no other and I look forward to cheering them on in the upcoming season.”

Also in attendance at the celebration were Dons Local Action Group – a local network of volunteers working to help those in need in our community by providing food parcels, household goods, furniture, and appliances.

If you would like to support the fantastic work they do, you can  visit donslocalaction.org or email info@donslocalaction.org

We’re proud to stand alongside a club that lifts up our community both on and off the pitch.
