New Community Banking Hub Opens in Morden

Labour-run Merton Council is proud to support the opening of a new community banking hub at the Civic Centre in Morden, bringing important financial support closer to residents who need it most.  

The hub is run by Your Community Bank, a local, not-for-profit credit union serving Croydon, Merton and Sutton. Unlike traditional banks, it is community-owned and focused on supporting local people rather than maximising profits. The new hub is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 2pm. This gives local people the opportunity to speak to the team face to face, ask questions and access advice on managing their money.  

The opening was welcomed by Cllr Stephen Alambritis, Cabinet Member for Finance,  who highlighted the importance of making sure residents can access trusted support locally:

"Having the team here in person makes a real difference. Residents can now sit down with someone face to face and get the help they need, whether it’s opening a savings account or signing up for the Merton Young Savers Scheme.” 

At a time when many households continue to feel the pressure of rising costs, having access to safe, affordable and trustworthy financial services is more important than ever.
