Merton Labour launches new plan to crack down on fly-tipping
Fly-tipping is a crime and a blight on our streets.
That’s why Labour-run Merton Council has launched a new Fly-tipping Strategy, setting out our bold and proactive plan to tackle illegal dumping across the borough.
To crack down on this issue, our new plan focuses on how we can prevent fly-tipping from happening in the first place, be tougher in enforcing against people who dump waste illegally, and work in partnership with the community to tackle this issue head-on.
To support responsible waste disposal, Merton Labour have recently expanded our Pop-up Tip service so that every neighbourhood has one near them at least four times a year. This expansion is helping residents get rid of unwanted items more easily, and is part of our four new pledges to make Merton a cleaner, greener, safer place for all.
As part of this firm action, we’re raising fines to £250 (£150 if paid early) for littering, and £1,000 (or £500 if paid within 14 days) for fly tipping, making sure those who dump waste illegally pay the price.
Our plan sends a clear message: fly-tipping is a criminal offence, and those responsible will face tough action.
