Merton Labour Helps Residents of Wimbledon Stadia Flats Secure the Right To Manage
Following a nine-month long campaign, leaseholders at Wimbledon Stadia have won the right to manage their own homes.
This outcome marks a significant milestone for the community, who officially took over management this summer. With 633 flats, the Wimbledon residential development is one the largest in South London.
Residents banded together to advocate for their right to manage their properties, with a remarkable 84% of flat owners joining the campaign. This demonstration of overwhelming support for the cause led to a breakthrough with Galliard Homes and Peabody Trust, who have now accepted the Right to Manage claims.
This outcome marks a significant step toward greater transparency, accountability, and quality of life for Wimbledon Stadia residents and homeowners alike, allowing services to be more closely aligned with the needs of residents.
Merton Labour’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable Development, Cllr Andrew Judge, said:
“I congratulate the Wimbledon Stadia leaseholders on finally achieving the right to manage their own homes. And I encourage all leaseholders in Merton to consider whether they too can make use of the legislation."
This outcome reflects a major milestone for leaseholders at Wimbledon Stadia, and a victory for resident-led action and empowerment.
Commenting on the outcome, Sebastian Budner, Chair of the leaseholders of the Wimbledon Stadia development said:
“We are proud to have achieved Right to Manage at Wimbledon Stadia. Right to Manage represents a significant step forward for our engaged community. Residents came together with real energy and commitment, and we believe we’re now well placed to make decisions that reflect the needs of our buildings and those who live within them.”
This collective success stands as a shining example of local residents working together to drive meaningful change.
