Labour Announces £30 Million for Morden

Labour-run Merton Council has announced plans to invest £30 million into Morden town centre. This major funding boost will help to transform Morden, backing  ambitious plans to rejuvenate the town centre into a destination for residents and visitors to Merton.

This kind of investment is big for Morden and is only possible thanks to this Labour administration’s careful management of taxpayers money – consistently making the right choices to benefit residents in Merton.

The £30 million boost marks a significant step towards remaking Morden for the benefit of all residents who live here. Long-term plans include building quality new homes for local people, developing a vibrant high street, creating a thriving night-time economy, and making Morden into a place that both uplifts the local community and attracts visitors from across London.

The Leader of Merton Council, Cllr Ross Garrod, announced the £30 million investment at Merton’s Christmas lights switch-on in Morden on Friday 28th November:

“I’m excited to announce our ambitious plans to create a thriving new neighbourhood in Morden. This £30million investment will help us fulfil our vision for Morden of  growing the local economy, boosting business and creating a town centre with new homes for local people which reflects the original charm and heritage of Morden.

This is about Labour delivering real change and a town centre that reflects the needs and aspirations of our community. With this investment, we are writing a new chapter for Morden, led by Labour and shaped by local people.”

Merton Labour is determined to transform Morden into a destination that reflects the best of our borough. We want a town centre that buzzes with life, where local businesses thrive and residents can enjoy everything from morning coffee to evening dining.

Through investing in leisure, arts, and culture, our ambition is to create a place that feels welcoming and safe at all hours, with green streets, clean air, and space for families, children, and the local community to come together.

That’s the Labour difference.
