£22,000 Investment Brings New Life to Mostyn Gardens
Local volunteers and Merton Labour have once again worked together to deliver improvements to a local park.
The Friends of Mostyn Gardens has been run by 15-20 volunteers from the Muslim Women of Merton since 2021. Their volunteering efforts have completely transformed the gardens, from what was once a derelict area, into a community space full of biodiversity and life.
And now, thanks to Merton Labour’s ‘Investing in Neighbourhoods and Community Climate Action Fund’, the group were able to secure £22,000 in funding to make further improvements to the space, including accessible footpaths, new benches, and wildflower planting to make the space as beautiful as possible.
Cllr Eleanor Stringer, Cabinet Member for Civic Pride and Climate Change said:
“I’m proud that we are able to support the incredible work of local volunteers who have transformed Mostyn Gardens into a thriving community space. Thanks to our £22,000 investment through the Neighbourhoods and Community Climate Action Fund, we will be able to deliver even more improvements to benefit the whole community.”
Through the Investing in Neighbourhoods and Community Climate Action Fund, Labour-run Merton Council have also been able to deliver further funding for community gardens, allotments, playground upgrades and heritage exhibitions.
In Merton we are lucky to have so many community organisations that work hard to make our borough such a special place to live. Outcomes like this show what can be achieved when local people and Merton Labour Action Teams work together.
Through collaborative efforts with local charities, organisations, businesses, and groups, we are delivering a greener, more sustainable borough.
