Parks and Green Spaces
Our parks and green spaces are one of the things residents love most about living in Merton. With over 115 parks and green spaces, Merton remains one of the leafiest boroughs in London. That’s why it’s vital that Labour-run Merton Council is putting its money where it’s mouth is and investing to protect and improve our parks for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s how Labour is protecting and improving Merton’s parks and green spaces:
-
10 GREEN FLAG AWARDS
Through the hard work of the council’s parks team, Friends of Park Groups, and local volunteers, Merton now has a record 10 Green Flag parks in the borough – with Haydons Road Recreation Ground and Holland Garden being recognised for the first time this year.
-
MITCHAM AND MORDEN BANDSTANDS
As part of our work to bring more cultural events to Merton for the community to enjoy, we have recently completed major renovations to Morden Park Bandstand and built a new pop-up bandstand on Fair Green in Mitcham Town Centre.
-
PLAYGROUND UPGRADES
We’ve revamped and upgraded five Merton playgrounds so far, providing new and exciting features designed with the community to inspire fun and creativity for the kids using them. The revamped playgrounds are at Cottenham Park, Ravensbury Park, Rowan Road Rec, Miles Road Rec, and Haydons Road Rec, with more on the way!
-
POOLS AND SPLASH PADS
We’ve completed a number of improvements and upgrades to our paddling pools and splash pads across the borough, most recently at the paddling pool in Morden Park, so they can be enjoyed by Merton’s children every summer. Merton has the highest number of paddling pools and splash pads anywhere in London!
-
POCKET PARKS
As part of our celebrations for Merton’s 60th Birthday, we announced the creation of 20 new pocket parks across the borough over the next year. These mini parks have already started being created, with the first completed on Meopham Road in Mitcham.
