Over 62,000 Households in Merton to Get £100 to Help with Energy Bills this Winter

The Government have recently announced a package of support to help create some much-needed breathing space for families struggling with the rising cost of living.

This includes a new Household Energy Payment, providing £100 to households in Council Tax bands A to D to help with their energy bills. The payments are expected to be made from January 2027, and will paid directly into the bank account of the council tax bill payer in each household.

For households who don’t pay their council tax bill by direct debit, the council will be in touch to invite you to apply for the rebate directly.

Approximately 71% of Merton households will be eligible for the £100 payment, helping over 62,000 Merton families and households with their energy bills this winter.
