Giving Children the Best Start in Life

Our children are our future, and we are determined to give them the very best start in life and help families in any way we can.

Here’s how Labour is helping children in Merton to thrive:

  • EVERY SCHOOL RATED GOOD OR BETTER

Every single school in Merton is now rated Good or Better by Ofsted, making our borough one of only a handful across the country to achieve this. Parents in Merton can be confident that wherever they send their children, they will receive a good education and support from their school.

  • TOP EXAM RESULTS

As a result of the excellent schools on offer in Merton, our students have once again secured fantastic results in their GCSEs, A-Levels, T-Levels, and BTECs – outperforming national averages and continuing the borough’s proud record of academic excellence.

  • OUTSTANDING CHILDREN'S SERVICES

In 2025, Merton’s Children’s Services successfully retained its Outstanding rating from Ofsted, one of only a handful of boroughs to do so. Government Inspectors praised the service for its strong leadership and work to provide the right help, at the right time to families.

  • FREE MUSIC LESSONS

Here in Merton, we understand the importance of music in a child’s development, that’s why Labour-run Merton Council funded a free music lessons programme called ‘Mini Musicians’, for 650 Reception and Year 1 pupils in Merton.

  • FAMILY HUBS

We have played a pioneering role in the development of Family Hubs nationally, as one of only twelve councils selected to pilot the approach. Our Family Hubs are based in Church Road Children’s Centre, Phipps Bridge Youth Centre, and Acacia Children’s Centre and join up local services in one place, making it easier for families to get the right help, at the right time.
