Cllr Agatha Akyigyina OBE
Figges Marsh
Agatha Akygyina was born in Ghana and settled in Britain in 1965. She has lived in the same home in Mitcham for 45 years and has proudly served as a local councillor and has volunteered in various capacities for more than three decades.
Agatha’s volunteer work includes over 30 years with Home-Start, where she has supported families and parents through challenging times. She is also a Street Pastor, going out once a month to offer support and companionship to those in need, and she is a trustee of the North East Mitcham Community Association (NEMCA), where she has been involved for more than 35 years.
Agatha always believed that Mitcham is a truly special place — a diverse and welcoming community where neighbours look out for one another. Through her involvement with the Ghanaian Parents Association and various local parent and community groups, she has worked to bring people together from all backgrounds to share experiences, support one another, and strengthen our community ties.
In 2017, Agatha was awarded an OBE for Political and Public service by the late Queen in recognition of all her community work.

Cllr Dan Johnston
Figges Marsh
Dan Johnston grew up on Sadler Close in the heart of Mitcham and went to St Peter and Paul’s Primary School. He saw first-hand what it means when housing standards fall short — the leaks, the broken benches, the frustration of waiting for repairs that take too long to happen.
Those experiences have driven Dan to work to improve housing in Mitcham, pressing Clarion to take responsibility – tackling long-running leaks and potholes, fixing broken benches, cleaning up graffiti, and improving life on estates. He brought residents directly into the council meetings so they could tell Clarion and other housing associations what it’s really like to live on their estate. And Dan forced Clarion to introduce “before and after” photos for every repair, driving up standards across our estates.
But Dan cares about more than holding housing associations to account. He wants to build pride in Mitcham. Dan helped secure funding to get the Saints BMX track back to racing standard, supported bulb planting projects in the town centre, and worked alongside our brilliant town centre manager to bring more community events and activities right into the heart of Mitcham.

Cllr Franca Ofeimu
Figges Marsh
Franca Ofeimu is a healthcare professional, who works for Children’s Services in a local authority nearby to Merton. She has called Merton home for the past nine years since she moved to London to continue her studies.
Franca’s main focus as a Councillor is on young people and their well-being. As a result, some of you may have noticed more youth activities taking place in the town centres, and Franca is really proud that Brenley Park now has gym equipment and a bookshelf for young people and residents to enjoy.
Since joining the Figges Marsh Labour Action Team, Franca has been campaigning for causes including efforts to save St. Helier Hospital, and previously to keep the Barclays Bank in Mitcham open, which sadly still ended up closing. More recently, she has been campaigning for Mitcham to have its own community banking hub to ensure local residents aren’t left without access to vital services when Lloyds closes it bank. She has also been involved in the campaign to save Mitcham Police Station.
In her spare time, Franca volunteers at her church, helping younger members of the church community.
