Labour at all Levels Working Together
Narrative introduction: For the first time since 2006, we have a Labour council working together with a Labour Mayor of London and a Labour government in Westminster. The opportunities this alignment presents are huge, and have already led to significant wins for people in Merton.
Here’s how Labour at all Levels of Government is Delivering for Merton:
-
NEW FUNDING FOR OUR LOCAL HOSPITALS
The Labour government has announced new funding for St Helier, St George’s and Kingston hospitals, as well as ten local GP surgeries to carry out major works to improve the comfort of patients and improve the infrastructure of local health services as part of their mission to cut waiting times and rebuild our NHS.
-
SAVING OUR POLICE STATIONS
Working with our Labour Mayor of London, we have successfully campaigned against closures of local police services and secured the future of both Mitcham and Wimbledon Police staying open and protecting the local community.
-
THE FIRST COUNCIL HOMES IN A GENERATION
The Labour Mayor of London is helping Labour-run Merton Council to build the first new council homes in Merton in a generation, with an injection of
£XXXmillion
towards the homes. This will help us in our mission to make sure everyone in Merton has a safe, warm and secure place to call home.
-
CULTURAL IMPACT AWARD
In 2024, the Labour Mayor of London awarded Merton the Cultural Impact Award which includes £400,000 of funding to enhance local culture, sport, and community projects for the local community.
-
FINANCIAL SECURITY
The Labour government has announced that councils will now receive multi-year funding settlements. This will provide us with more financial certainty, allowing us to plan for the future, invest in our services, and be more ambitious in our delivery of what matters to you.
